Car buyers increasingly using the internet for information
Roy Morgan Research believes that up to 2.3 million Aussies are currently in the market for a new car and it seems that many of these people are using the internet to gather information on the latest models.
More than half of the survey respondents said the web was their preferred medium for searching different cars, while just one in five still rely on newspapers.
Other channels such as magazines and the Yellow Pages are also being used less frequently.
Account director of automotive at Roy Morgan Research Jordan Pakes said that people normally research car financing options 12 months before they purchase a vehicle, while motorists generally look for the most competitive prices three months before they visit a showroom.
The internet can be used to find the cheapest car insurance quotes too.
By using a comparison website, drivers only need to enter their details once before the system generates a comprehensive list of prices from insurers all over the country.
