How to protect your car from thieves

Official statistics recently revealed that nearly 160 vehicles are being stolen across Australia every day, which just goes to show how important it is to have adequate car insurance.

Of course, you don't want to be making a claim on your policy unless it is absolutely necessary, as you will inevitably find your premiums going up thereafter.

There are a number of things you can do to reduce your chances of being targeted by thieves and most come down to good old fashioned common sense.

If you don't have the luxury of a garage or secure car parking, it is vital that you leave your vehicle in a well-lit area alongside plenty of other motors. If you know the area well, you may be able to park up where you think there is CCTV in operation.

Obviously, having an alarm will help your cause, but you can also pay for some extra security measures such as an immobiliser and smart keys, which kill the ignition if an intruder has forced their way into the car.
