Practical tips for cutting car insurance premiums
While the selection of a vehicle can impact on car insurance premiums, those who already have a vehicle may also be looking for ways to reduce their outgoings by cutting the amount paid for cover.
One way to do this is to reduce the amount of time spent on the roads, for example by commuting on foot, bike or using public transport.
Many Aussies appear to have already taken this step – whether to reduce bills or simply for convenience, as recent figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show.
ABS data showed that in the 12 months to October 31st 2010, the average distance driven by each registered vehicle fell to 14,100 km, down from 14,600 in 2006.
Another tip is to think carefully about where cars are parked, as off-road parking or better still a garage can reassure car insurance providers that the machine is at lower risk of theft when not being used.
