RAA: Petrol prices to drop this weekend

The Royal Automobile Association of South Australia (RAA) has suggested that petrol prices will drop this weekend, meaning Aussies who decide to use the long weekend to set off on a road trip could be in for a bargain.

Car insurance customers hitting the highway this weekend can expect retail prices of around $1.35, reflecting the drop in petrol's wholesale value, the organisation explained.

RAA senior analyst Chris West noted that wholesale prices have been dropping for three weeks, making it likely it will be reflected in the price at the pumps.

"There isn't any reason for fuel prices across South Australia to be increasing across the long weekend. It's a good [chance] to go on a road trip," he added.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission recently called for greater transparency when it comes to the coordination of national fuel prices.

Certain supermarkets currently offer discounts to customers with loyalty cards, making the issue increasingly confusing.
