Competition in Australia's car insurance market has intensified further with the news that Woolworths has entered the fray.

The retail giant has been providing life and pet insurance products for 12 months and it has now launched vehicle cover, as well as home and contents policies.

With so many companies battling against each other for new customers, it is inevitable that drivers will find plenty of affordable quotes.

By comparing car insurance policies online, motorists only have to enter their details once before the search system generates a list of offers.

It has never been more important to cut your insurance costs, as the overall price of keeping a car on the road has risen dramatically in recent years.

However, Woolworths head of insurance George Hughes warned that it is important not to get too bogged down in the cost of your policy and to ensure that the level of cover you are receiving is adequate.

"There are plenty of cheap insurance products out there but cheaper is not necessarily better when it comes to insurance," he remarked.
