Sales of hybrid cars soar down under

Aussies have been jumping on the hybrid car bandwagon in huge numbers, as sales of green vehicles have rocketed.

New figures have highlighted an 84 per cent rise in the number of hybrid models being purchased by private buyers across the country in June and this figure is expected to go up when sales results for July are accumulated.

With petrol prices sky-high throughout the nation, it is hardly surprising that Aussies are looking at ways to cut down on their expenditure. The environmental benefits of driving a hybrid are also obvious.

It could be a good way to reduce your car insurance costs on a long-term basis.

Providers are likely to offer cheaper premiums to people who own vehicles with smaller engines than those who still insist on having a gas-guzzling, high-speed car.

Santo Amoddio – managing director of Glass's Guide – said: "I think the private buyer market is growing in awareness of hybrids and the reliability of them."
