In the past, many Aussies have found that securing a new car insurance policy was a nightmare, as companies meticulously ploughed through all of their details with a fine tooth comb.

Thankfully, the internet has made things far easier for vehicle owners to compare car insurance quotes and it is no longer a stressful process.

Rather than having to fill out your details for every single insurer to look at before giving you a price, people using a comparison website only need to type in their personal information once before being presented with an extensive list of the best deals available to them.

It seems that modern technology could make the job even simpler still in the future, as one insurance firm has now started using an Image Capture system.

Bosses at Progressive Insurance have suggested that customers can now use their smartphone to take a picture of their vehicle registration plate and driver's licence, before an application issues them with an updated insurance policy.

It is unclear as yet if this system will become mainstream, but it goes to show how far technology has helped motorists find the cheapest premiums.
