Telematics-based car insurance could be the next big thing
Aussies are always looking for ways to significantly cut down on their car insurance premiums and sophisticated new technology may offer them a helping hand.
Of course, using a specialised website to compare the cheapest car insurance quotes is the best way to make savings, while keeping a clean driving licence is obviously going to stand you in good stead too.
However, the emergence of telematics technology could also aid motorists in their quest to find the lowest insurance premiums.
The system sees a "black box" installed into a person's vehicle, which monitors their performance behind the wheel and collates results that can be analysed by an insurance provider.
It is a great way for Aussies to prove they have not developed any bad driving habits that may one day result in a crash.
The concept has already caught on in the UK, with a recent study by comparison site Gocompare.com showing that 57 per cent of drivers plan to switch to a telematics-based insurance policy in the next five years.
Surely it is only a matter of time before Australian drivers follow suit?
