The comprehensive car insurance offer from Australia Post is all about making your life simpler when setting up cover, when you have to make a claim and when your wheels are out of action. You won’t need to stress about reporting accessories or modifications with AusPost as it’s all covered as standard. Add new-for-old car replacement and hire car cover after a not at fault claim and you’ve got a top quality deal. And if you sign up for the first time online, you'll receive a $75 discount on your first year's premium.

Key features

Australia Post’s comprehensive cover is all about flexibility, before, during and following the claims process. The generous hire car cover is a great feature. If your car is being repaired or replaced after a theft or accident where you weren’t at fault, you’ll be sorted for 14 days of hire car cover (post-accident hire car cover is often only an option extra).

If you do write-off your car, AusPost will replace it with a new comparable model, so long as your retired wheels were less than 3 years old and had travelled under 60,000km.

Other great features include $1,000 of personal property cover for items inside your car, up to $1,000 cover for emergency travel and accommodation if you’re more than 100km away from home, and excess-free windscreen repairs. Windscreen and glass replacement does come with an excess unless you add excess-free cover for this as an optional extra (at an extra cost), though.

Other optional extras include having your own choice of repairer – which is good if you prefer your dedicated mechanic – and hire car cover after an at-fault incident.

Keep in mind, there’s a $600 young driver (under 25) claims excess, which rises to $1,600 if they’re also not listed on the policy.

Who is it good for

If you’re someone who loves a regular group road trip, having excess-free windscreen repairs and considerable emergency cover will be useful. It’s also a great policy for anyone with a modified car or those who know they’ll need a hire car to get around after an incident.

Any catches

If you want the flexibility to spread your premium payment out in monthly instalments to better fit your budget, you’ll have to pay around 10% extra.
