If you’re a South Australian resident looking for one of the more far-reaching policies on the car insurance market, you should definitely consider SGIC’s Comprehensive Plus Car Insurance. A 2021 Mozo Experts Choice Award winner for Exceptional Quality Car Insurance, this policy has you covered for a range of events and gives you the opportunity to drive down your premium through generous no claim and loyalty discounts.

Key features

When you take out a comprehensive car insurance policy with SGIC, you can choose between the standard cover or the 'Plus' option. The latter is essentially a higher level of cover and includes some features that aren't in the standard policy or would otherwise come as option extras (like hire car cover after an accident and excess-free glass repairs).

SGIC Comprehensive Plus Car Insurance comes stacked with features to cover you in a wide range of driving mishaps. For example, if your windscreen is chipped by a rogue rock on the road, you’ll be able to get that fixed without having to fork out any of your own money on an excess (you can take out excess-free windscreen protection for this feature in the standard comprehensive policy). SGIC also covers you for any work-related equipment in your vehicle (so long as it's registered for business use) up to the value of $1,500 and provides $500 worth of cover for any other personal property that might be stolen or damaged.

If you’d like some flexibility around who is responsible for repairing your pride and joy, this policy gives you the choice of repairer. Or if your brand new car is written-off or stolen within two years of you purchasing it, SGIC will replace it with another fresh set of wheels. Just bear in mind roadside assistance doesn’t come as standard for this policy (you can include it for an additional price).

SGIC rewards its customers for their loyalty, so depending on the number of years you’ve held a policy with the company and the number of policies you hold, you could save up to 25% on your premium through a loyalty discount. On top of that, this policy also comes with one of the more indulgent no claims bonus schemes. If you’ve got a proven track record of being a safe driver, you will be eligible for a discount ranging from 25% to 65%.

Who is it good for

This policy is a great option if you have splashed any extra cash on your car after purchasing it. SGIC Comprehensive Plus Car Insurance automatically covers any modifications made to your vehicle and will talk with you about agreeing on a value for the car so that you can adequately replace it if something were to go wrong.

Any catches

As SGIC is NRMA’s South Australian arm, this policy is only available for residents of that state. Also keep in mind that if you’ve got any kids that are likely to drive you car, it is a good idea to name them on your policy and avoid the unnamed driver excess of $1,200 for drivers under the age of 25.
