UbiCar insurance is currently unavailable for new policies.
UbiCar is changing the way Aussies take out car insurance by rewarding safe drivers with lower premiums. Everything operates through the UbiCar app, where drivers can track their driving habits, receive messages about their monthly premiums and even make claims. UbiCar also lets you choose your own repairer, so with this car insurance, whether it’s driving safely for lower premiums or choosing who fixes your car, it’s all up to you every step of the way.
UbiCar offers usage based car insurance where the safer the driver the less you pay! Based off a tag that you put in your car and an app you can access on your smartphone, UbiCar tracks your driving habits and determines premiums from how well or poorly you drive. Basically, once you're set up, data is collected from the tracker tag every time you drive.
But don’t worry, you won’t just be randomly slapped with a different premium every month without notification. UbiCar constantly keeps its drivers in the know, by updating them through the app about the cost of their monthly premiums, why they were either lower or higher than the previous month and what driving habits you need to improve on (if any).
To keep things simple, there is only one option of cover when you take out UbiCar Insurance; comprehensive. Under your policy you’ll be covered for events like theft, towing costs and any damage caused by collisions, weather and all the usual suspects. There are also some optional extras you can add which include windscreen and window removal and cover for a hire car after an accident. Just be mindful to select these options if you think you’ll need them when you first take out cover, as they aren’t automatically covered under a regular policy.
UbiCar offers options for drivers that are under 25 and, in the same way they do for experienced drivers, they reward them for safe driving. Keep in mind though, you could pay up to $650 excess on a claim for a young driver. And if you drive for Uber or any other rideshare service, you'll be glad to hear that UbiCar offers comprehensive car insurance for vehicles used for rideshare.
UbiCar Insurance could be a good option for drivers who are safe on the roads and want to be rewarded it for it, and don’t mind having to stay up to date with their premium. You'll also want to be relatively tech-savvy to make the most out of the app.
If your car is damaged when your car is driven by a driver that isn’t nominated on your UbiCar insurance, an additional $1,000 excess is applied. Also bear in mind, if your tracking tag is unconnected when you need to make a claim, an additional $1,500 excess applies.

Love the product and the offering but my experience when it came to make a claim was pretty ordinary. There was a complete lack of communication from their end. It took at least three phone calls from me, and two email complaints before someone contacted me to tell me the process and likely timings. I just got an email today to tell me my policy has been cancelled but received no other communication. Presumably that means my claim has been accepted and paid, but it would be nice to be told. If you have low expectations for customer service you won't be disappointed.
