Key features

Domain Insure’s Home Building Insurance comes with all the usual cover, including cover for damage to or the complete loss of your property. This can be from events such as fire, flooding, storms and accidental breakage.

There’s no excess for total loss claims, meaning Domain Insure will waive the excess if your property is completely destroyed. Plus, if you’re worried about your home being underinsured, then you’ll be pleased to hear that this insurance policy comes with a 10% rebuild cost safety net. This means if your home is completely destroyed and you find out that the rebuild cost is more than the sum insured, Domain Insure will pay up to 10% more to make sure you’re not out of pocket.

If you are unable to live in your property because it is damaged as the result of an event listed in the PDS, then Domain Insure will pay reasonable costs for temporary accommodation.

Talking of the PDS (product disclosure statement), be sure to read it before you take out the policy. There are some circumstances for which you won’t be covered. For instance, ‘impact damage’ may cover you for damage done to your home by falling trees or branches, but it may not cover you for damage caused by a felled tree at your address.

Water damage is another example. As with most home building insurance policies, you will be covered for water leaks and burst pipes. However, you may not be covered if it is damage that occurs over a long period of time. That is if it was a gradual process of leaking, splashing or overflowing that you may have known about.
