After serving up property listings and expertise for years online, the minds behind Domain.com.au are now offering insurance. Domain Insure offers Home Building Insurance to help you keep your home covered against events like fire, storms and flooding. Plus there's a 12% discount if you buy online.
Domain Insure’s Home Building Insurance comes with all the usual cover, including cover for damage to or the complete loss of your property. This can be from events such as fire, flooding, storms and accidental breakage.
There’s no excess for total loss claims, meaning Domain Insure will waive the excess if your property is completely destroyed. Domain Insure will also pay reasonable costs for temporary accommodation, if you are unable to live in your property because it is damaged as a result of an event listed in the PDS.
Talking of the PDS (product disclosure statement), be sure to read it before you take out the policy. There are some circumstances for which you won’t be covered. For instance, ‘impact damage’ may cover you for damage done to your home by falling trees or branches, but it may not cover you for damage caused by a felled tree at your address.
Water damage is another example. As with most home building insurance policies, you will be covered for water leaks and burst pipes. However, you may not be covered if it is damage that occurs over a long period of time. That is if it was a gradual process of leaking, splashing or overflowing that you may have known about.
If you’re looking for an insurance policy that delivers on all the usual cover and you’re worried about being underinsured, then you might want to check out Domain Insure’s Home Building Insurance.
As with a number of insurance policies, this policy does not cover landscaping costs and building materials.
