Mozo Review   SGIC Buildings Insurance Review

Last updated: 31 October 2019.

What's hot:
  • Underinsurance protection

  • Flood cover included at no extra cost

What's not:
  • Monthly premium payments cost extra

Mozo snapshot:

SGIC's Home Plus Insurance policy aims to keep your home in tiptop shape, with a long list of inclusions and benefits. If you’re worried that your home may be underinsured, SGIC Home Plus also offers underinsurance protection of up to 25% of the sum insured amount. It’s worth mentioning that you’ll be able to score a few discounts for combining policies as well as a loyalty discount, plus, if you’ve kept a good claims history, you’ll receive a discount for this too.

Key features:

SGIC Home Plus Insurance will give your home cover against natural disasters like fires, floods, storms and lightning plus 10 other listed events. Unlike many other home insurance policies, you’re automatically covered for accidental damage and electrical motors burning out. However,  you won’t be covered for are power and storm surges.

As this is a buildings insurance policy, your fixtures like doors, walls roofs will also be covered along with gates and fences. If you ever decide to renovate, building materials are also covered. Temporary accommodation for you and your pet will also be covered if your home becomes unlivable along with debris removal and demolition costs.

Who it's good for:

As SGIC is South Australian, SGIC Home Plus is a great choice for South Australian homeowners looking for a policy that has their home covered from the inside out.

Any catches?

While SGIC do offer cover for any building or structural repairs, if you are deciding to renovate you should know that you will not be covered for any expansions or shrinkings you make in buildings, foundations, walls and pavements.

Plus, as you are given the option to pay your premium on a monthly basis, you will have to pay extra for this.

Their fees are reasonable, when I ring I am not on hold for very long, they direct debit straight out of my account and if I do choose to bundle any other things that I want insured, I will get a discount.
