SGIC’s Contents Insurance is a policy that has your back when it comes to covering your contents. Along with new for old cover on your belongings, you’ll also have access to a multi-policy discount if you combine policies with their building insurance, a loyalty discount the longer you stick around, and a no claims bonus if you've got a great claims history.

Key features

With SGIC’s Contents Insurance, you can rest easy knowing that your favourite belongings will be under top protection. You’ll get cover for your electronic files, like CDs and DVDs, plus software on your computer. Your cameras, antiques, jewellery and other valuables with hefty price tags are also covered under this policy, and You’ll also receive cover for any locks that need replacing. But remember, you will not have cover for any uncut gems or other things like shrubs, building materials, water sports equipment and caravans.

One other cool thing is that, if you and your pet need to temporarily move out, SGIC Contents will cover the accommodation costs for this and if you or your furry friend are injured, you’ll be covered there too.

While we’d like to think that our homes are the best shield to protect our contents from damage, unexpected things do happen. That’s why with SGIC you’ll be covered against 14 listed events, like fires, earthquakes and even explosions, just to name a few. You’ll also have the option of adding accidental loss and damage to your policy to give yourself that extra bit of cover. Keep in mind that power and storm surges are not covered under SGIC Contents Insurance.

And last but not least, there are a range of discounts on offer with SGIC, including:

  • No claims bonus (up to 25%)

  • Loyalty discount (up to 25%)

  • Benefits for combined home and contents cover

Who is it good for

SGIC Contents Insurance is a suitable option for anyone concerned about protecting their belongings, but not the structure of their home, like renters. Homeowners might prefer to combine home and contents policies.

Any catches

SGIC Contents Insurance does not offer underinsurance protection, which may leave you out of pocket if you haven’t insured your items correctly. When creating the list of contents you’d like insured, it’s important to consider what it will cost to replace your things, not just their current value.

Also, SGIC Contents gives you the choice of being able to pay your premium monthly, but know you'll have to pay extra for this.

    Great premium

I transferred to SGIC from NRMA when I moved from QLD to SA. The process was very simple and they took great care to let me know what was covered. I have compared quotes a few times and none have been able to better the premium.
