You’ll be covered for a wide range of events with Woolies Standard Home and Contents insurance such as fire, theft, storm and flood plus the more unlikely ones like earthquake and lightning. The policy also includes cover for accidental breakage to glass but not on general home fixtures and contents, so if you do want this cover, you’ll need to take out the Comprehensive policy instead.
In addition to the building structure, your building cover will include any fences and gates up to the sum insured as well as up to $750 for landscaping. There’s up to $300 for replacement locks, and should you not be able to stay in your property, the policy includes up to $500 for temporary pet accommodation as well as emergency accommodation for yourself. Should you need it, you’ll also get cover for temporary accommodation for 10% of the sum insured up to 12 months.
With the contents cover, there are some per item caps on things like cds and dvds, handwoven carpets, jewellery and antiques (up to $1000 per item) up to $2500 in total. Contents of any home office will be covered up to $5000 and outdoor contents has a cap of $4000. If you want to insure camera equipment, or personal medical equipment this is an optional extra. If your home has a blackout or the fridge packs it in you’ll also be covered for $500 worth of food spoilage. There are many more features, and some exclusions with this policy so be sure that you read the PDS to ensure that it will meet your needs before you sign up.
Who it's good for:
Woolworths Standard Home and Contents Insurance is a good option for budget conscious homeowners who want quality cover without a high price tag.
You can choose your excess level to help reduce your premium but just be mindful that there is no underinsurance protection with this policy. This means that you should stay on top of the value of your home and your belongings so that the sum insured matches the market rate and if something was to go wrong you’ll be able to replace items or rebuild to the same standard.
