Frequently asked questions about AAMI Travel Insurance

Q1. Who can apply for AAMI Travel Insurance?

AAMI travel insurance offers a number of policies for permanent Australian residents between the age of 18 and 65 and their dependent children under 18.

Q2. How long am I covered for?

When you book a travel insurance policy with AAMI, your cover is valid from the day you leave Australia to the policy end date up to a maximum of 180 days. Cancelled travel is covered from the date that the policy was issued to policy end date.

Q3. What sporting activities will NOT be covered under my insurance policy?

While a number of sports can be covered under AAMI travel insurance, the activities that are NOT covered are:

Professional sport (including training for that professional sport)

  1. If you want cover for a specific sport it’s best to check directly with AAMI when you call them for a quote.

Q4. Does a travel insurance policy cover one-way overseas trips?

Nope, AAMI policies don’t cover one-way international trips. You need to start and end your trip in Australia to be eligible for a travel insurance cover with AAMI.

Q5. Will I be covered for stopovers?

Yes, with AAMI overseas travel insurance, you will be covered for the first 72 hours of each stopover in a country outside of the region you've selected as your travel destination. In case you’re going to spend more than 72 hours in a stopover destination, you will need to select the travel region that includes this country. For instance, if you are travelling from Perth to Paris and are going to spend four days in Bangkok on the way, you should select Region Two - All countries except the USA, Canada, Japan and countries in Africa.

Filing a travel insurance claim with AAMI is a simple process. Their support team is available on call 24/7 for policyholders in case of any emergency medical and travel claim assistance. To make sure you’re well prepared, here’s a list of documents that you should keep handy because you may need to attach them with the claim application:    

1. Original medical and dental certificates and specialist doctors’ reports in case of a medical emergency

2. Police report in case of a theft or damage to property

3. Transportation providers’ reports, receipts, invoices, travel itineraries, airline, train or bus tickets in case of a delay or cancellation of services

4. Any other documented evidence to support your claim
