If you are looking to knock a couple of things off the bucket list this year, Outdoor Magazine recently announced the winners of its 2014 Travel Awards and whether things on your list are about adventure, food or luxury lodging, it's time to start planning that holiday.

This year's winners include:

World's top destinations to add to your bucket list

Best SUP Getaway: Stand Up Paddle (SUP) boards have become something of a phenomenon in the last few years and the best place to head for paddle boarding is Bend, Oregon for its variety of SUP locations.

Best River Trip: If whitewater rafting or canoeing are more your style the top picks for this sport are the Chilko and Chilcotin Rivers, British Columbia Canada and Australia's own Ord River in the Kimberley.

Best Desert Trip: If four-wheel driving through martian-esque sand dunes and deserted beaches is your ideal of a great trip then Namibia tops the list of the great desert adventure.

Best Foodie Destination: Want to try wild bore, venison and delicious Belgian waffles then wash it down with beer from one of the world's last remaining Trappist breweries then head to Flanders and Wallonia, Belgium.

Best Beach: If relaxing in paradise is one of the things your bucket list, then its time to get out the atlas and look up South Water Caye in Belize, a 15 acre island inside the countries larges marine reserve. A bit closer to home is Tikehau Atoll, Tahiti where you can rent an over-water bungalow with a glass floor panel so you can watch the fish swim on by.

Just because you are planning on ticking off some of the things on your bucket list, it doesn't mean that you should travel without the proper level of travel insurance. Before booking holidays to remote locations or signing up for extreme sporting activities make sure you are covered for the activities you plan to undertake and the countries / areas you plan to visit.
