Key features and fine print of your travel insurance policy

Now that you’re familiar with the general inclusions that come with Cheap Travel Insurance, you must not forget to carefully read through the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) to make sure you don’t miss out on any fine print that could be crucial at the time of filing a claim. Here’s a list of some of the different inclusions and exclusions that you should look out for.

Overseas medical expenses

In case you suffer from a sudden illness or serious injury while you’re travelling, Cheap Travel Insurance will pay the reasonable cost of emergency medical, hospital, road ambulance or other treatment that you received during the trip.

Fine print: If the insurer determines that you should return to Australia for treatment and you refuse to do so, then you will be paid the amount which according to Cheap Travel Insurance would cover your medical expenses and/or related costs had you agreed to their recommendation.

Cancellation fees and lost deposits

Cheap Travel Insurance will cover the cost of any prepaid transport or accommodation arrangements (less any refunds due to you) if your trip is cancelled because of unexpected circumstances that were outside your control.

Fine print: You will not get paid if your trip is altered because you are a full-time permanent employee and your pre-arranged leave is cancelled by your employer (unless you are a full-time member of the Australian Defence Force or of federal, state or territory emergency services).

Luggage and personal effects

With Cheap Travel Insurance, you can be covered for accidental loss, theft of, or damage to your luggage and personal effects including things you buy during the trip, as long as they were with you. The insurer can choose between repairing, replacing the property, or paying you its value in cash, after allowing for wear, tear and depreciation.

Fine print: Your claim will not be accepted if the loss of luggage is not reported to the transport provider, police, hotel or appropriate authority within 24 hours of you becoming aware of the loss.

Personal liability

You will be reimbursed for any amount due to your legal liability to pay damages or compensation because your negligence during your trip causes injury to a person who is not a member of your family or travelling party or the loss or damage to property that is not owned by you or a member of your family or travelling companions.

Fine print: You will not be paid for a liability arising out of your trade, business or profession.

General exclusions that can get your claim rejected

You’ve read the features and the fine print, but it’s always good to be extra cautious when it comes to international travel insurance. That’s why we’ve listed out some additional general exclusions that can get your claim rejected with Cheap Travel Insurance. You will not be paid for any claims arising from or relating to:
