Key policy features to look out for in DUInsurance

Pre-existing medical conditions:

Like most travel insurance providers, DUInsurance requires you to disclose any pre-existing medical conditions before purchasing a policy. The good news is that travel insurance policies from DUInsurance automatically cover 43 of these conditions.

Fine print: There are also a number of pre-existing medical conditions that are automatically excluded from DUInsurance’s travel insurance policies and you can check the PDS for a full list. If you’re travelling with one of these conditions you can still purchase a travel insurance policy, there just won’t be the option to claim for any of the excluded conditions. You can also apply for cover for a pre-existing medical condition that is not on either list, but an additional premium will be charged. If you’ve been hospitalised for the condition within the last 24 months, you won’t be covered, even if it appears on the automatically covered list.

Travelling while pregnant:

If you’re having a single, uncomplicated and unassisted pregnancy, all of DUInsure’s policies will cover you up until the 26th week of your pregnancy for no extra premium. You won’t have to fill out a medical declaration form either. By paying an additional premium you can be covered for a multiple uncomplicated pregnancy (for if you’re having twins), or an artificially assisted pregnancy up to 13 weeks.

Fine print: A pregnancy won’t be covered by a regular DUInsurance policy if it is an artificially assisted, multiple pregnancy or if you’ve experienced complications. Costs for regular antenatal care, childbirth or care for the newborn child won’t be covered under DUInsurance travel insurance policies either.
If you’re travelling while pregnant, take a look at Mozo’s travel insurance guide for pregnancy for more information.

Single, Duo and Family insurance:

Whether you’re travelling alone, with a partner or friend, or with your whole family, DUInsurance has cover options to suit you. Under single (1 adult) or family (2 adults) travel insurance policies, dependents under the age of 18 are covered for free, but aren’t covered under Duo policies (2 adults).

Fine print: If you take out a family travel insurance policy, be aware that the benefits as listed on your policy apply to all the travellers combined, regardless of how many people are traveling with you. Duo policies are also not available under frequent flyer travel insurance.

Seniors insurance:

If you’re:

Fine print: If you need to fill in a medical declaration form, DUInsurance will assess this before you can purchase cover, and they do reserve the right to decline cover, impose special conditions or apply additional excess or reduced benefits.
For more info on travel insurance for seniors, check out our guide to travel insurance for over 55s.

Cooling off period:

If you decide DUInsurance is not right for you or decide not to travel after all, you can cancel your travel insurance policy within 14 days of being issued your insurance certificate to receive a full refund.

Fine print: You will only receive a refund if you have not started your trip and you haven’t already and do not plan to make any claims under the policy.  You won’t be entitled to a refund after the 14 day period.

Important things to remember for a successful travel insurance claim with DUInsure

In the event that you do have to make a claim on your travel insurance policy, it pays to be prepared and keep in mind the procedure for making a successful claim. Don’t neglect the fine print of your travel insurance policy, or you might find yourself without the necessary information and evidence to make having the cover worthwhile. There are a few things you should remember when you go to make a claim with DUInsurance:

How to make a claim with DUInsure

When you make a claim with DUInsurance, you’ll need to obtain a claim form from their client services department, or you can lodge an online claim on their website. The online claim is reviewed within ten business days, and if you’ve provided all the necessary information, you’ll be told the outcome of your claim. Alternatively, you might be asked to give extra information on some parts of your claim.

When making your claim, there are some things you should have handy to speed the process along. These are:

Submit your claim within 30 days of your return to Australia and remember - if your claims form is not complete it could mean delays in having it processed, and could even mean a reduction to the payment you receive. For more information on making travel insurance claims and reasons why they might be rejected, take a look at our travel insurance claims guide.

Absolutely Fabulous

Absolutely fantastic service. I originally got the insurance in the UK, then renewed it in New Zealand which you'd be surprised how difficult some insurers make that! Fab prices, fab cover and fabulous service! Very impressed!

Upon making a claim - for some items which were stolen by some thugs who broke into our car, we were told we needed evidence of everything that we were claiming (difficult since we were still overseas) and that the official police report needed to be in English (again difficult because the incident happened in Belgium and they mostly speak French). Six months after we returned home, we are still trying to progress our claim, I feel as though they are hoping we will just give up.
