What should I know about Jetstar Travel Insurance?

What your policy covers

The benefits you’ll receive will depend on the policy you choose. Under Jetstar’s international travel insurance policies, you can expect the following, with varying degrees of cover:

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Generally, Jetstar doesn’t offer cover for pre-existing medical conditions, except for a relatively short list which includes such conditions as allergies, eczema, glaucoma, hay fever, insomnia and tinnitus, among others. The only caveat is that you must not have had any issues in the last six months and don’t have any medical procedures planned for the future.

Check out our guide for more information on pre-existing conditions and what you can expect from insurance providers.

What medical assistance you will receive

If you’re travelling to New Zealand, you can expect to receive emergency medical evacuation as part of your International Travel Insurance Plans. That means if you are injured or fall ill during your trip, Jetstar will cover the cost of transportation back to Australia.

If you’re travelling elsewhere overseas, your cover will be more far-reaching. Under the Essentials and Essentials Plus Overseas Travel options, your overseas medical and hospital expenses will be covered up to $1,000,000 and $2,500,000, respectively. Opt for Premium Comprehensive Travel Insurance and you’ll be looking at unlimited cover for overseas medical, hospital, dental and any related expenses.

The age limit

Anyone taking out an Essentials policy ahead of an overseas trip will have to be under the age of 60 at the date of departure. The limit is raised if you’re taking out an Essentials Plus or Premium policy, in which you’ll have to be under the age of 70 at the date of departure.

If you’re only travelling to New Zealand, however, there’s even more leeway. Trans-Tasman cover is available to those that are under the age of 80 before departing for their trip.

Cancelling your Jetstar travel insurance policy

If you decide to cancel your Jetstar travel insurance policy within 14 days of purchasing it, you’ll receive a full refund of your premium (assuming you haven’t made any claims, of course). If, however, more than 14 days have passed, you won’t be able to get your premium refunded.

A quick guide to the fine print of Jetstar Travel Insurance policies

Once you’ve shortlisted a travel insurance policy that suits you, you’ll need to make sure you understand all the finer details so you don’t encounter any obstacles if it comes time to make a claim. Here are just a few key points you’ll need to keep in mind:

How do I make a claim with Jetstar Travel Insurance?

If an incident occurs at some point during your trip and you need to make a claim, it will have to be done within 30 days of the completion of your trip. To make sure the claims process goes as smoothly as possible, you’ll need to have the following:
