NAB Travel Insurance

NAB

Travel insurance is a must if you want to feel a little more at ease while venturing into the unknown. Organising trips away can be stress inducing enough as it is, let alone the thought of something going wrong when you get there! Whether your dream holiday involves taking selfies with Mickey at Japan’s Disneyland, to meandering the city of lights at night, NAB travel insurance detailed below could be your match made in heaven too.

About NAB Travel Insurance

As one of the big four bank pillars of Australia, NAB has a reputation for providing banking products to a large customer base. Something lesser known about NAB though is its international, domestic and annual travel insurance cover available to holidaymakers and business travellers. In partnership with Allianz Australia, NAB’s travel insurance products can cover singles, duos and families on just about any type of trip away. Read on to find out if you’ll be taking out one of the following policies for your next holiday with NAB.

What travel insurance policies do NAB offer?

Individuals, couples and families can choose between three different types of insurance policies at NAB. For trips out of Australia, jetsetters can take out an international insurance policy for a single journey or if you go overseas more than once a year, an annual policy. NAB also offer a domestic insurance policy for travels just within Australia. NAB will generate an insurance quote for you based on where you’re going, how long for, your age, and what pre-existing medical conditions you have, if any. Medical emergencies:

Having a medical emergency while on holiday is probably one of the worst outcomes you could hope for. On the plus side, if you choose to take out a NAB international or annual insurance policy, it covers emergency medical assistance to an unlimited amount. Other insurance benefits under the umbrella of health include covering a minor dental mishap and hospital cash allowance. Best of all, if you are caught in a medical emergency Allianz Global Assistance is on call 24 hours a day to help you make the right medical choices to suit your insurance policy.

Personal effects:

NAB international and annual travel insurance includes cover for a portion of stolen cash, travel documents and travellers cheques. One other major worry you are likely to have as a traveller is having your luggage stolen, delayed or damaged. Rest assured that these unlucky events are covered too!

Travel disruptions:

As for potential bumps in your overseas journey outside of your control, another benefit of NAB international and annual travel insurance is that if you need to change plans because of airline or travel provider delays, alternative transport such as a new train ticket or rental car can be included in your claim.

Pregnancy:

Women carrying an unborn child can only have NAB travel insurance cover if they travel under 26 weeks into the pregnancy.

Unlimited cancellation:

If you want to cancel your insurance policy, NAB will let you do so any time, which is another feature not all insurance providers have in their policies.

Children are free:

Unless you take out the duo insurance policy, any child or grandchild dependants under 21 years old can travel insured for free, but you need to make sure they are listed on the policy.

What's not covered?

Some types of activities:

While NAB’s travel insurance covers an array of activities, there are some exclusions you should watch out for, especially if you’re a thrill seeker. Hiking adventures that involve mountaineering is one out, and so is rock climbing! Other activities not covered by NAB travel insurance include sky diving, hunting, open water sailing, racing (other than on foot) and playing polo.

Some pre-existing medical conditions:

Keep in mind that some pre-existing medical conditions will require you pay to a premium, and others won’t be covered at all. If you have cancer, a mental illness, cardiovascular disease or are on blood thinning medication, NAB travel insurance will not cover any potential medical attention you may need overseas. Minor medical conditions like asthma, allergies and Coeliac Disease can be covered, but you’ll need to pay a premium. For further information about the finer points, be sure to check out the Product Disclosure Statement on the NAB website as a point of reference.

Making a claim

Unfortunately things can go wrong on a holiday, like getting pickpocketed in Barcelona or stranded at Changi Airport from a cancelled flight. It won’t seem so bad though if you have NAB insurance to help you out. If something happens to you on your vacay, let Allianz Global Assistance know as soon as you can so they can help you get the right assistance and process your claim.

Submitting a claim:

To make a travel insurance claim with NAB, there are two ways to do it. You can hop to NAB online, download and complete the Allianz insurance form, or give them a call and they’ll talk you through the process.

Proving a claim:

Depending on the type of claim you are making, Allianz may ask you provide written documentation to support your claim. Say your laptop gets stolen at a cafe from your bare hands. You’ll need to file a report with the police and give a copy to Allianz for your claim to be successful. You may also be required to show proof of purchase so keep copies of all receipts. In order for Allianz to process your claim, you have a window of 30 days to do it after returning from your trip.
