What should I know about Simply Travel Insurance?

What your policy covers

This will come down to whether you opt for Simply Travel Insurance’s comprehensive or budget policy.

If your main concern is that ‘big picture’ things could go wrong, then their budget policy might be for you. This policy provides unlimited overseas medical coverage and costs of repatriating you back to Australia if something goes seriously wrong, but it doesn’t offer the wide range of benefits available under the comprehensive travel insurance.

Aside from overseas emergency medical assistance and expenses cover, Simply Travel Insurance’s comprehensive policy also includes cover for:

What pre-existing medical conditions are covered

Simply Travel Insurance automatically covers 35 pre-existing medical conditions, as long as:

The Simply Travel Insurance PDS has a full list of these conditions, which includes common ones like allergies, asthma and menopause. Their policies also cover pregnancy and diabetes, but if you have cancer or cardiovascular disease, you will be required to take a medical assessment and may have to pay for additional premiums.

Still confused? Check out Mozo’s travel insurance guide on pre-existing conditions to find out more.

What medical assistance you will receive

If you get sick or injured while overseas, all of Simply Travel Insurance’s international travel insurance policies give you unlimited cover for your emergency medical expenses, so you won’t have to worry about being hit by a massive hospital bill during your trip. They also provide a range of support such as:

Age limit

While Simply Travel Insurance’s budget policy is available only to people aged 74 and under, its comprehensive policy can be taken out by travellers of all ages. But if you’re 80 years or over, you will need to factor in price loadings and other limitations placed on your insurance.

Cancelling your Simply Travel Insurance policy

What if you decide that the policy you’ve taken out isn’t the one for you? Simply Travel Insurance will give a full refund if you cancel the policy within 14 days of being issued your Certificate of Insurance and PDS, given that it’s before you depart for your trip overseas.

You’ll still be able to cancel your policy after 14 days but keep in mind you won’t be refunded any part of your premium then.

What optional travel insurance cover does Simply Travel Insurance offer?

High Value Items

If you’ve taken out a comprehensive policy and want peace of mind about your valuables, you’ll be able to purchase up to $5,000 of additional cover for high value items that are less than 12 months old. You can do this by listing each item and its value when you apply for cover.
However, jewellery, bicycles, watches and all watercraft (except for surfboards) aren’t covered.

Cruise Pack Add On

Going on a cruise overseas? You may be interested in Simply Travel Insurance’s cruise pack, which can be added onto your comprehensive policy. This will cover things like prepaid shore excursion cancellations, missed cruise departures, cabin confinement, and any formal outfits you bring onboard.

Winter Sports Pack Add On

If you’re heading to a snowy destination for your next holiday, purchasing a winter sports pack with your comprehensive policy could be a good choice. By paying for this additional premium, you’ll receive unlimited emergency rescue cover as well as some level of cover for ski packs, piste closure, bad weather and avalanche closure, and hire equipment.

A quick guide to the fine print of Simply Travel Insurance policies

When taking out Simply Travel Insurance policies, it’s important that you read the fine print, so you have a clear idea of what your cover includes and excludes. Here are a few key points to pay attention to:

How do I make a claim with Simply Travel Insurance?

Once you’ve understood the fine print, submitting your claim to Simply Travel Insurance is simple!
