What travel insurance policies do Suncorp offer?

Suncorp has two types of travel insurance policies to pick from. Globetrotters taking brief or few travel stints around the world can opt for the standard Holiday Travel Insurance. On the other hand, regular travellers and holidayers taking multi trips are better suited to the Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance. Suncorp will factor in where you’re going, how long for, and the pre-existing medical conditions you have (if you have any) to generate your insurance quote. In some cases you may need to pay extra (also known as the premium) if your health or circumstances make it so. For the key details of Suncorp travel insurance policies, consult the list below:

Medical emergencies:

You wouldn’t want to have a medical emergency while on a holiday or business trip, but sometimes these things do happen. Thankfully, if you choose to purchase either of Suncorp’s travel insurance policies, it can cover emergency medical assistance to an unlimited amount. If under the unfortunate circumstances you find yourself in hospital for more than 48 hours, included in your Suncorp insurance policy is a daily cash allowance. And if you’re wondering about your holiday insurance covering those pearly whites, rest assured Suncorp has cover in the case of a dental emergency or injury.

Personal baggage:

You’d be pleased to learn that Suncorp’s Holiday Travel Insurance covers personal baggage, clothing and personal effects if they go missing, get stolen or damaged during your trip.

Unlimited cancellation charges:

If your journey or accommodation gets cancelled in circumstances outside of your control and leaves you out of pocket, Suncorp travel insurance has an unlimited cancellation policy. Just remember to keep all the evidence of these travel interruptions to help prove your claim.

Loss of income:

If you take out an annual multi trip policy and you or a member of your family gets injured while on vacay, Suncorp may be able to cover some loss of income for being unable to work upon returning home. Conditions will apply so check the PDS.

What's not covered

Some types of activities:

Suncorp travel insurance policies will have your back for most standard holiday activities, but there are some exclusions you’ll need to be aware of. Activities include diving or motorcycling without a proper licence, hunting, racing, flying an aircraft, rodeo riding, sailing, mountaineering and even playing football.

Some pre-existing medical conditions

For people with certain types of pre-existing medical conditions, you might be required to pay a premium, while other conditions won’t be eligible for cover at all. For example, you are excluded from cover if you have a mental illness or cardiovascular disease. To find out how your pre-existing medical condition will impact on the cover you are eligible for, you can fill out a Suncorp assessment form. Also be sure to read the Suncorp Product Disclosure Statement online.

Pregnancy:

If you are pregnant, Suncorp travel insurance might not be the right fit for you because you won’t be eligible for medical insurance cover. The same goes for infants less than one month old. Their health won’t be insured under either policy type.

Making a claim

The holiday of your dreams could easily spiral into a nightmare if you trip over some cobblestones in Florence and sprain your ankle or your hotel is broken into and belongings have been stolen. If you have a Suncorp travel insurance policy, you’ll need to make a claim.

Submitting a claim:

To make a travel insurance claim with Suncorp, call or email the provider as soon as you can. The official website lists the international phone and freecall number within Australia. Alternatively you can fax Suncorp to begin your claim.

Proving a claim:

Some types of claims require you provide supporting documentation, like police reports and medical statements. These are all important to keep because at some point Suncorp may need a copy. Say for example the airline you are travelling with leaves you in the lurch by cancelling your flights. Hold on to evidence like email correspondence to speed up the process of your travel insurance claim.

Very pleased with my travel insurance

I lost some of my luggage whilst travelling to Ireland and although it wasn't recovered, the cost of it all including the suitcase and baggage were even covered thanks to Suncorp.

Excellent phone service

Even though it was done over the phone, the Suncorp rep.was very friendly and did not rush me. I did not try anyone else as he was so easy to relate to and we signed up immediately. However we did not make any claims following our trip.
