The banks have had their chance, now it’s time to reveal what Australia really thinks about their car insurers.
Not long ago, we asked you to review your car insurer – how they rate on price, features, service – the whole shamozzle. The response was huge and we gathered a heap of tell-all reviews and statistics. We then fed all this juicy data into the Mozo HQ brain-bank. This is what it said…
Top 5 Car Insurers (30 reviews or more)
1. Shannons: 9.0 out of 10
2. Apia: 8.8 out of 10
3. Youi: 8.3 out of 10
4. Suncorp Insurance: 8.3 out of 10
5. Real Insurance: 7.9 out of 10
Specialist insurers, Shannons were standout winners of the Australian car insurer showdown. In fact, of their 64 reviews, only one reviewer dished out the dreaded thumbs-down, which means over 98% of customers thought Shannon’s were the bees-knees. Not far behind, Apia also scored big with their over 50’s customers.
For the non-specialised insurers, it was great to see new players Youi and Real scoring very well, whilst Suncorp topped the list of the multi-talented banking/insurance providers.
The Big Boys
Much like the banking Big Four, car insurance is headed up by a fraternity of power-brokers: some of which only operate in certain states, some, like AAMI, who cover the whole of the country. So how’d they do? Pretty well actually. Much like the big banks, they sat hunkered together mid-table, but scored well. Either Australian’s are nicer to insurers than banks, or the former are doing a significantly better job. Here’s how they stacked up…
AAMI: 7.8 out of 10 (856 reviews)
NRMA: 7.8 out of 10 (554 reviews)
RACQ: 7.7 out of 10 (225 reviews)
RACV: 7.6 out of 10 (299 reviews)
Allianz: 7.6 out of 10 (321 reviews)
So what do all these numbers mean for people looking for car insurace? If you head to Mozo’s car insurance page, for the first time in Australia you’ll now be able to compare comprehensive car insurance on not only product features, like no claim discounts or choice of excess, but you’ll also see exactly what existing customers think of their policy. We think that’s a pretty great tool for all Australians!
