Australia is set to splurge $13.7 billion this Black Friday, Mozo research shows

After a long lockdown period, Mozo research shows that Australians are very excited to get ahead on their Christmas shopping and throw themselves into the fray of Black Friday - coming up This Friday, Nov 26th.
Almost two-thirds (62%) of people are planning to shop during Black Friday sales, with half (50%) excited to buy discounted items and nearly a quarter (22%) looking out for cashback offers.
Although Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show that the total national retail turnover declined 25.07% between May and August, Mozo’s promising data suggests that there might be a surging increase, coming as Black Friday is only days away.
“With the sales season about to kick off, bargain hunters are getting ready to splash some cash,” says Tom Godfrey, Mozo spokesperson.
In what could be good news for retailers, Mozo found shoppers are set to splurge an average of $1,100 on Black Friday and other sales.
That said, there is trepidation, as almost three quarters (74%) of shoppers fear that items bought online during this Friday’s sales will take longer to be delivered - an issue that has plagued Aussie online shoppers for months.
“With Christmas just around the corner and shipping delays on the cards, making the most of the Spring sales could help ensure Santa doesn’t disappoint this year,” Godfrey says.
He also advises that, to get the best deals, you should prepare for Black Friday in advance:
“Even with retailers set to serve up the sales, whether you’re in the market for a new pair of shoes or a laptop, it always pays to compare prices.”
Also, to find all the best deals in one place, find a buyer's guide with all deals aggregated in one place, and keep an eye on it, as these are usually updated hourly.
What are Aussies planning to buy on Black Friday?
Mozo data found a gender divide when it came to potential purchases.
Male shoppers will be looking to purchase smartphones (31%), laptops (29%), and headphones (24%). For female shoppers, clothes (53%), shoes (31%), and skincare products (29%) will be the items most in demand.
