I am writing to express my disgust at the customer service I received in the South Rockhampton branch of The Rock Building Society today. I was told that 'The Rock' experienced a system error that stopped my pay from going into my bank account on time. Unfortunately I had loan payments to make today, which I have failed to do so due to 'The Rock's' system error. In order to resolve this with my creditors, I asked the manager of this branch (South Rockhampton mall) for something in writing in the hope that my creditors would not charge me for late payment. The manager refused to give me a written statement as to why I cannot access my money. I tried to reason with her and explain it was important, she became passive aggressive and told me to calm down or I would have to leave, when at this point I was far from irate, I was as calm as always. Next, she starts telling me stories about herself not being payed on time and that I was not the only one. This seemed highly irrelevant to my request for something in writing. She continued to argue with me while presenting threats of expulsion from the premises. After refusing to leave until I had something in writing to show my creditors, she finally agreed and wrote a basic statement which says "There is an error with the system and your money is not in yet", she then signed the statement. She also failed to state her position/role in the organisation in writing. It is now almost 5pm and I have confirmed with my employer that my pay was passed on to 'The Rock' as usual, but I am still being denied access to my money. For those of you who live week to week and rely on your payday to get things done, it seems that 'The Rock' is not the place to keep your money as you may end up in a similar position to me, with no way to pay your bills and put food on the table due to no fault of your own. Just like many people in this world, I have had my share of bad customer service and usually just take it and move on, but this disgusting display of aggressive denial has forced me to not only write to the assistant to the MD of The Rock Building Society, but also a copy of this email will be sent to the financial ombudsmen, consumer groups, review systems and websites alike in order to warn the general public of what they may face as a result of entrusting 'The Rock' with their money. For those who don't know, The Rock's slogan is 'Good People with Money'. After what I have experienced I believe a more appropriate slogan would be 'Dodgy People, with MY Money'.

With the Rock Building Society I have direct access to my loans officer through email or fax and get prompt same day service from her. I have never met them personally as all my banking is done online or over phone.
