Frequently Asked Questions about G&C Mutual Bank credit cards

What is the interest free period on my G&C Mutual Bank credit card?

Interest free days are the best way to keep your credit card balance under control, so knowing how they work is important. First of all, you’ll have up to 50 days to pay off the balance on your G&C Mutual Bank credit card before it attracts interest, but only if you keep up with your monthly payments. If you don’t pay off your whole balance each month, you’ll wind up losing your interest free days for the next month - and that’s not what you want.

You should also know that interest free days start when your statement cycle does (usually in the beginning of the month) and not when you make a purchase.

What fees might I be charged?

Good news! The annual fee is waived for the first year on any G&C Mutual credit card. Not so good news? After that either card will attract an annual fee - a pretty steep one in the case of the premium option.

Other than that, fees you should look out for include the usual foreign exchange margin and cash advance fee, plus all the penalties for late payments or overdrawn funds that usually accompany credit cards. Want to skip out on those extra fees? Check out our guide on how to avoid paying credit card fees.

What’s the minimum repayment amount I must make?

It depends on what your final balance is. If your balance is below $20, then you’ll need to pay off the whole amount as your minimum. If it’s more, than you’ll pay either $20 or 5% of the closing balance - whichever is higher.

What rewards will I earn with my G&C Mutual Bank credit card?

If you opt for a low rate credit card from G&C Mutual, you won’t earn rewards points. But if you go for a premium option, you’ll have some very decent rewards earning power behind your spending - not to mention a bunch of cool perks like complimentary insurance, which you can check out below.

This card is great for travellers, because all your rewards points are converted directly into Qantas frequent flyer points. The points are pretty simple - 1 point for every $1 you spend, or if you spend on Qantas products, you’ll earn 2 points per $1.

You can redeem those points for a bunch of cool things, like:

Flights or upgrades on Qantas and its partner airlines

Hotel bookings all around the world

Heaps of retail products from the Qantas store

You’ll also have 24/7 access to perks like the VISA concierge service, which can help you with a range of different things, including arranging travel bookings.

What insurance cover is available for my G&C Mutual Bank credit card?

Your premium G&C Mutual Bank credit card comes with a range of complimentary insurance covers, including:

Overseas travel insurance

Transport accident insurance

Purchase security insurance

Domestic flight inconvenience insurance

Will my G&C Mutual Bank credit card work anywhere in the world?

Pretty much! G&C Mutual Bank credit cards work on the VISA network, which is available in most places around the world. Just don’t forget to factor foreign exchange fees into your holiday budget!

Does that mean I can use payWave with my G&C Mutual Bank credit card?

You got it! Because your G&C Mutual Bank credit card is a VISA card, you can pay for purchases under $100 using contactless payments.

What can I do to avoid credit card fraud

There are a few steps you can take towards making sure your credit card is secure as possible, including:

When shopping online, use sites that are Verified by Visa

Never give out your personal information online, not even to those claiming to be from your bank

Keep your passwords secret and hard to guess

Don’t send payment details over email - they can be picked up by hackers. Most online shopping sites will use security features to prevent this, but email doesn’t provide that

Review your monthly credit card statements and look for unusual activity. If you find something, report it to G&C Mutual Bank straight away

Tops at all functions, as I have required

I joined this Credit Union 27/5/1993. We do not have a branch anywhere near Armidale, yet every request can be carried out without any hassles what so ever, by phone or Email. Also was involved with scammers over seas and they informed me of the scammers' intentions, and so saved me lots of money. Cannot speak highly enough of the staff and the Credit Union.

Low rates and not soul less

My credit card with this bank has lower than average interest rates but lacks options such as frequent flyer points system. It feels good also to support a group that is not part of the big four.
