Many of us dream of reaching the golden age when we can retire from work and enjoy the money that we have built up in savings accounts throughout our long career.

However, it seems that a growing number of Aussies are now more than happy to keep working into their later years.

New figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics have indicated that 40 per cent of older employees want to scale back their hours, rather than quit working altogether.

A further 13 per cent even suggested they have no intention of retiring at all and this suits companies that do not want to lose their most experienced staff members.

Speaking to News Limited, Actuaries Institute chief executive Melinda Howes stated that older people are receiving far more opportunities to continue working.

"A lot of companies are offering that flexibility of part-time or transition to retirement, so they can retain the Baby Boomers and their skills in the workforce," she remarked.
