Aussies are fed up of spiralling energy bills

Aussies are increasingly frustrated with rising energy prices and many have taken matters into their own hands.

Thousands of households have signed up to a People Power petition and the One Big Switch campaign has managed to secure a special deal with TRUenergy, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The company is offering a 16.5 per cent discount on electricity bills and Aussies can switch over to the deal by August 17th.

According to campaign leader Christopher Zinn, thousands of New South Wales residents have already taken advantage of the new package and this shows how angry people have become with rising energy prices.

Indeed, many households have been forced to dip into their savings accounts of late to cover the extra cost of everyday bills and recent figures showed that Sydney and Melbourne are among the most expensive places to live in the world.

"While the figures indicate people are switching, it does not show all the people who have contacted their existing providers asking for a better deal," Mr Zinn was quoted as saying.
