Celebrating Aussies splash out on Champagne

Champagne is one of life's great luxuries, but with the global economy continuing to struggle, it is a treat that many people have had to give up in recent years.

Plenty of Aussies have been forced to take drastic measures to make ends meet, with the Courier-Mail recently reporting that a growing number of Queenslanders are having to dip into their children's savings accounts in order to pay for essential items and services.

However, it seems that despite the ongoing financial struggles, many Aussies are still keen to splash out on Champagne.

New figures released by France's Champagne Bureau have shown that people down under have been buying the luxurious fizzy tipple in their droves.

Indeed, Australia proved to be the eighth biggest importer of Champagne in the entire world in 2011. Around 4.8 million bottles were sold in the country last year, which was a 31.9 per cent increase on 2010.

Clearly, plenty of Aussies had cause for celebration last year, even if it meant dipping into their savings funds every now and again.
