Despite warnings that Aussies’ finances are heading down the pan, many are actually managing their money much more effectively than they have in the past.

Such is the suggestion of money expert David Chalke, who has told lifehacker.com.au that many Aussies feel they are well in control of their wallets an purses.

Long-term research carried out by pollsters Quantum Market Research has shown that many Aussies are pretty hot when it comes to using credit cards wisely and making sure they are paid off in good time.

“They are not going to hell in a credit-fuelled handbasket … We’ve actually got a lot smarter at managing money,” he told the website.

Elsewhere, News.com.au has recently advised shoppers looking to make sure they are in control of their credit card spending not to be lured into lucrative zero per cent deals without checking what the rates are after the “honeymoon period” is over.ADNFCR-1761-ID-18762684-ADNFCR
