Money lost in Commonwealth muddle
As many as 200,000 customers have been affected by a glitch in Commonwealth computer systems which left many people’s bank accounts overdrawn.
In a statement, the bank guaranteed that it would refund any fees that arise as a result of the processing error.
The group added that it will be working to resolve the issue overnight.
One customer told news.com.au that they had to wait 20 minutes before speaking to someone at the call centre because of the high volume of enquiries.
“The lady was lovely though and whilst she apologised profusely for the error… she was unable to give me an ETA for rectification other than sometime in the next 24 hours,” said the Sydney resident.
Meanwhile, the Melbourne Herald Sun quoted another customer who had been worried that his bank account had been hijacked.
