ANZ has ushered in a new era of smart saving with the launch of its web-based SmartyPig savings account.

As well as offering competitive savings rates, the new savings accounts aim to put a bit of fun and vibrancy into putting money away by getting friends and family involved.

With the new SmartyPig savings accounts, people will be able to encourage and even donate towards their friends’ cash-stashing efforts using online social network sites such as Facebook and MySpace.

ANZ rep John Harries enthused: “We know that young people have unique needs when it comes to their finances. They look for simple, efficient and secure ways to manage their money.”

As such, he hoped that the high interest savings account would prove popular among younger generations who are more than au fait with the workings of the web.

SmartyPig is already available to BankWest customers in the US, where it is used to help people save for any number of items, from mp3s for music lovers to deposits for first-home buyers.ADNFCR-1761-ID-18821978-ADNFCR
