Revolut offers three account tiers – Standard, Premium, and Metal. But when you’re signing up for a Revolut account, their share trading platform won’t be the only features you can access. The Revolut app provides access to budgeting tools and foreign exchange services (to 30+ countries), as well as the ability to send money and set up recurring payments. Of course, the access to Revolut’s services will differ depending on your account tier.  

Revolut’s Standard account is free to sign up to and charges no monthly account fees. You’ll get up to three free trades per 30 days, after which a fixed rate of $1 per trade is charged. As far as foreign exchange trading goes, you’ll pay no exchange fee up to $9,000 for every 30 day period, after which you’ll be charged a variable fee (T&Cs apply). 

Revolut’s Premium account comes with a price tag of $9.99/month, but you’ll get up to eight free trades per 30 days, after which a fixed fee of $1 per trade is charged. As far as foreign exchange trading goes, you’ll generally pay no exchange fee up to $20,000 for every 30 day period, after which you’ll be charged a variable fee (T&Cs apply). 

Revolut’s metal account (their top-tier plan) will cost you $24.99/month, but comes with unlimited fee-free trades, as well as fee-free foreign exchange (T&Cs apply). 

An interesting feature of the Revolut share trading platform is the ability to follow stock traders in a social media-esque fashion – providing live updates of their trades and holdings, so you can see what others on the platform are doing.

The Revolut app can also notify you when stocks you’ve flagged hit your desired price, meaning that you’ll be poised to invest in over 1,500 global companies when you want to. Plus, you’ll get access to company performance metrics and market news on demand.

Who is it good for

Revolut could be an option worth considering for those looking to get into both IMT and investing in the US market, with a low financial barrier to entry. 

The Revolut app comes with a range of other money management features and tools, so those with interests in other areas of their personal finances might benefit from the additional bits and bobs included in their plan.

Any catches

Those looking to trade shares in markets other than the US might be disappointed in the lack of access to other overseas exchanges, keeping in mind that the value of US shares in Australian dollars fluctuates with exchange rates - meaning that you might find yourself eating into your earnings, or even losing money.
