Mozo Review   Queenslanders Credit Union Business Credit Card Review

Last updated: 4 December 2019.

What's hot:
  • 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Award winner

  • Low 13.20% p.a. purchase rate

  • Up to 55 interest free days

What's not:
  • Rewards points expire after 24 months

  • $40 late payment fee

Mozo snapshot:

If you want a piece of plastic that rewards your business without costing you an arm and a leg, then the Queenslander Credit Union Business Credit Card could be a worthy contender. With this rewards card, you have plenty to get excited about, including a rewards program that lets you trade in points for gift cards and cash, as well as a bunch of features that could cut down your interest costs, including a low 13.20% p.a. purchase rate and up to 55 interest free days. This card packs in so much bang for your buck that it even won a 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Award in the Rewards Business Credit Card category.

Key features:

Starting with credit card basics, the Queenslander Credit Union Business Credit Card offers a competitive rate of 13.20% p.a. on purchases, and if you pay off your balance in full each statement period, you’ll have access to 55 days interest free the following month, helping you save big on interest.

Under the card’s Mozo Expert Choice Award-winning rewards program, you’ll earn 1 point for every dollar spent on Visa, with a monthly earning cap of 10,000 points. For every 15,000 points that you accumulate, you’ll have the choice of redeeming them for either a $100 gift card or $100 in cash. The points you earn could give your business a small cash flow boost, as they can be converted into funds, which you can then access via EFTPOS to make purchases. But if you prefer to hoard your points, just keep in mind that they will expire after 24 months.

As for those looking to have multiple cards to share among business partners and employees, you’re in luck, as the Queenslander Credit Union Business Credit Card comes with the option to have additional cardholders, free of charge.

However, this isn’t a card you would want to miss repayments on, as it comes with a hefty late payment fee of $40. You’ll also need to budget for a $90 annual fee. But the good news is, if you buy your stock or inventory from suppliers abroad, there’s only a relatively small foreign exchange margin of 1.50% to factor in.

Who it's good for:

The Queenslanders Credit Union Business Credit Card is a good match for small business owners after a low-fee and low-interest way to earn cash rewards for their purchases. This card also suits businesses looking for the flexibility to buy supplies both in Australia and overseas, as it comes with a relatively low 1.50% foreign exchange margin.

Any catches?

Bear in mind that while this rewards card is a relatively inexpensive option for businesses, it does have a couple of additional fees, including a $90 annual fee and $40 on any late payments.

How do we calculate the rewards?

To work out the "Rewards value minus fees" in our Rewards Revealer we:

  • calculate how many points you'd get each year,

  • figure out how many flights or gift cards or cashback credits you could get for those points,

  • work out what that's actually worth to you,

  • take off the annual fee you'd pay.

More details:

  • Our calculations are designed to help you compare the value of different rewards schemes. To do this, we've looked at earning a one-way Sydney-Melbourne flight excluding taxes and charges, a return Sydney-London flight excluding taxes and charges, a $100 shopping Gift Card and $100 cashback. Most cards will also offer other rewards, which may be worth more or less than the ones we've shown.

  • We have made no allowance for bonus points for using your card at specific merchants, introductory offers or special offers. We have not assigned any value to instant discounts, insurances, ticketing and concierge services or other such benefits.

  • Rewards value calculations do not take credit card interest into account. If you do not pay off your card each month you may be better off looking for a card based on interest rates than on the value of rewards.

  • In products that have more than one card, a different mix of spend between American Express / Visa / Mastercard will give different results. Mozo's Rewards Revealer lets you choose the mix based on the way you would use such a product, and gives you tailored results.

  • We assume flights purchased with airline points are 'classic' or 'reward' economy seats with restricted seat availability. 'Any seat' rewards will probably cost more.

  • To compare the value of flight rewards, we sample online retail flight prices once a quarter based on the average price on a Wednesday 3 months in advance but outside NSW school holidays. For domestic flights we take the lowest available fare from each flight on that day from Qantas Red e-deal, Virgin Australia Saver including baggage and Jetstar Starter including baggage. We calculate the average price excluding taxes and surcharges for each airline, and also the average across all airlines (which we use when rewards are travel agent vouchers). For international flights, we take the lowest available fares on that same Wednesday from each of Qantas, Emirates, Malaysian, Etihad, Singapore, Cathay Pacific and Thai, assuming a return flight 2 weeks later, calculate the average price before taxes and surcharges and use this as our assumed cost of a flight on any airline.

  • Shopping rewards are based on $100 gift cards from a major national department store.

  • We make every effort to ensure our calculations are correct and up to date but make no guarantees.
