Bonds 'a better bet than bank term deposits'

Although it takes some pluck to be keen on investing in the stock market at the moment, the Courier Mail reports that there are some bargains to be had if you know where to look.

However, for those who are keen on keeping their investments safe, FIIG Securities managing director Jim Stening has insisted that bonds may be the answer.

Speaking to the paper, he explained that with the Reserve Bank trimming interest rates to historic lows, bonds may offer a better return than bank term deposits.

But for those who do choose the safety of the bank term deposit, the paper recommends that people compare term deposits thoroughly first to make sure they are getting the best term deposit interest rate on offer.

Earlier this month, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission announced that it is considering tighter monitoring of the term deposit market after a flood of investors began taking an interest in the investment.
