The Middle East is an increasingly intriguing place to visit, as areas such as Abu Dhabi have expanded at a rapid rate in recent years.

A growing number of people – including many Aussies – are keen to spend their overseas travel money in the many luxury boutiques that have spring up throughout the United Arab Emirates, which continues to profit from its extensive oil resources.

New figures released by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority have highlighted the ever-growing popularity of the emirate, as the number of people staying in Abu Dhabi hotels grew by 29 per cent in January 2012.

Aside from the huge number of upmarket stores and gourmet restaurants that the area has to offer, director general of the tourism authority Mubarak Al Muhairi suggested that the plethora of events and exhibitions that the city holds has had a positive impact on visitor numbers.

He also stated that better air access has also helped boost the amount of people entering the region.
