Aussie holidaymakers travel to same destination more than once

While some people prefer to travel to a different destination every time, this is not always the case for Australian holidaymakers after Roy Morgan Research found that one in five chose their last destination based on having visited it before.

According to the research in the last 12 months to September 2015, 21.2% (2.8 million) of Australians aged 14 or over who took a holiday, opted to go somewhere they’d already visited in the past.

Angela Smith, Group Account Director Roy Morgan Research said the most popular destinations among travellers were coastal and “a timely reminder” given that holiday season is approaching that Australians love a beach getaway.

The holiday destination with the highest proportion of visitors (42%) who said they chose it because of past holidays was the North West Coast in Tasmania. Other destinations likely to be chosen on previous experience were Victorian High Country (37.8%), Southport (36.9%) and Noosa (33.5%).
