Australia praised as travel destination
Aussies may be tempted to use their pre-paid travel cards at home when they embark on their next holiday after a travel magazine praised the country for its rock solid tourism industry.
The promotion of domestic travel – and the associated use of travel credit cards – has long been on the political agenda in Australia, but a little outside support in the guise of positive reviews could help the country's politicians keep Aussies spending at home.
Australia has just been voted the Best Asia/Pacific Destination – surpassing Malaysia, Thailand and New Zealand. The award was presented to the nation by Ronan Flood, managing editor of Irish Travel Trade News.
Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy added: "Despite the tough economic climate hampering consumer confidence, the support of travel agents goes a long way in keeping Australia top of [the] mind."
Along with the popularity of the destination, it seems that pre-paid travel cards are growing in stature in Australia, according to new figures released by Research and Markets.
