Chinese travellers cannot get enough of Australia
Chinese holidaymakers simply cannot get enough of the Australasia region and new figures show that 40 per cent of middle class people from the Asian country visited this part of the world last year.
More than one in three have been to Australia, while one in five have travelled to New Zealand, according to statistics compiled by Mintel.
Paul French – chief China market strategist at the company – said that Chinese citizens are attracted by Australia's plethora of casinos and luxury resorts.
With so many wealthy people visiting Australia, businesses need to work out how they can get them spending as much of their overseas travel money in their store, restaurant or hotel as possible.
"Australia has been growing in popularity for a number of reasons. It is under nine hours of flying time, so less than Europe," Mr French remarked.
Of course, Aussies may wish to head in the opposite direction for their next holiday. At the moment, one dollar will get you in the region of 6.5 Chinese yuan in return.
