Demand for cruises high among Aussies
The demand for cruise holidays is "healthy" among Australians, bosses at MSC Cruises Australia and New Zealand have suggested.
Managing director of the organisation Lynne Clarke said the Mediterranean was a particularly popular choice among Aussies.
This, she said, is partly because people are taking advantage of the best exchange rates for years between the dollar, the euro and other currencies across the continent.
"The strength of the Australian dollar coupled with affordable pricing and a growing desire by travellers to take a cruise holiday is driving business in 2012," Ms Clarke remarked.
She added that the firm will be able to cope with this increased demand because it is adding a new vessel to its fleet – the MSC Divina, which is due to be launched in Marseille by movie icon Sophia Loren in May.
Managing director of Creative Holidays Paul McGrath recently told Travel Daily that Aussies' interest in Greece has grown sharply thanks to the ongoing economic turmoil in the country, which has resulted in the dollar strengthening against the euro.
