It isn't just Aussies that will be looking to buy online travel money this year, as the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has predicted a huge increase in the uptake of international holidays.
According to the organisation, the number of people planning to travel to a different country this year will surpass the one billion mark.
The body stated that worldwide tourist arrivals increased by 4.4 per cent in 2011, as approximately 980 million people ventured abroad.
This was a significant rise on 2010, when 939 million holidaymakers sampled new pastures.
"International tourism hit new records in 2011 despite the challenging conditions," commented UNWTO secretary-general Taleb Rifai.
The research showed that plenty of people searched for the best exchange rates on currencies used by South American destinations, as this part of the world received ten per cent more visitors last year than it did in 2010.
Recent research conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics indicated that more Aussies are looking for trips to Cambodia, China and Brazil, the Daily Telegraph reported.
