The Academy Awards could be having an impact of where Australians choose to spend their overseas travel money.

According to one British travel firm, the lure of the destinations seen in some of Oscar-nominated films is proving too much for holidaymakers to resist.

Indeed, bosses at lowcostholidays.com have suggested that interest in trips to Paris has soared thanks to the success of Midnight in Paris, while the popularity of The Descendants has resulted in a surge in bookings for tours of Hawaii.

The 84th Academy Awards will be staged on Sunday (February 26th) in Los Angeles and the prestigious ceremony always proves popular among Aussies.

Some of the places mentioned by the UK-based tour operator are already the favoured destinations of Australians, as representatives of Creative Holidays recently confirmed that Hawaiian holidays have always been highly sought after down under.

Managing director at the holiday company Paul McGrath said that demand for trips to the island grew sharply in 2011 and this trend is set to continue into 2012.
