How to save money on calls when heading abroad
Aussies who have been using their mobile phone while abroad often find a substantial bill landing on their doormat the following month.
Dealing with the post-holiday blues is bad enough without having to fork out excessive amounts to cover the cost of making overseas calls.
Holidaymakers are always looking at ways to make their cash stretch further and many have realised that the best way to do this is to compare travel money rates before leaving Australia.
Another avenue that may be worth exploring is the type of SIM card you use when in a different country. Bosses at TravelSIM have revealed this week that the company's international traveller service has helped tourists save a combined $26.2 million in the past 18 months.
This is because the package offers roaming charges that are 80.6 per cent cheaper than other Australian communications providers, including offerings from renowned firms like Optus, Vodafone and Telstra.
Chief executive officer at the organisation Jamien Zimmermann said that despite wide media coverage, too many people are still oblivious to costly roaming fees.
