More hotels become available for London Olympics
Aussies who are planning to head over to London for the 2012 Olympic Games could benefit from a new wave of hotel rooms that have entered the market.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games had booked up 600,000 rooms for the event, but it is now thought that 120,000 are no longer needed.
Some Aussies may have been concerned that such was the huge demand for hotels, high accommodation costs may have eaten into their overseas travel money.
Chief executive officer for VisitBritain Sandie Dawe said that a range of rooms, from budget hotels to luxury five-star alternatives, will be offered to the general public.
Although rates may fall slightly because of the influx of rooms that have suddenly become available, travel industry chiefs have warned that inflated prices have already put off many potential visitors.
The Australian Associated Press recently reported that Aussies who do venture to the UK in 2012 will benefit from the best exchange rates seen between the two countries in 27 years.
