New age travellers 'live online', says luxury holiday expert
The days of Aussies heading to a high street travel agent in order to book a holiday appear to be numbered, as an industry expert has suggested that new age tourists "live online".
Director of Riverside Rise Retreats Michael Chorney said that more people are booking trips via the internet and in many cases are cutting out the need for travel agents.
As well as purchasing their getaways over the internet, plenty of jetsetters are also ordering their travel money online and it seems that companies that do not have a strong web presence are likely to miss out on customers.
"No longer is it adequate to have a web presence that is ambiguous with pretty pictures of rooms and views that people cannot really have," Mr Chorney noted.
He also noted that fewer Europeans and Americans are heading to Australia because of the high value of the dollar. This has also led to many more Aussies venturing abroad – particularly to places where they will receive the best exchange rates.
