New Zealand, Brazil and Colombia top destinations due to low Aussie dollar: Expedia
For a wallet friendly holiday that will give you considerable bang for your Australian buck, Expedia's Foreign Exchange Index has shown that the destinations of New Zealand, Brazil, Colombia, Russia or Norway should be on your travel bucket list.
Speaking to the Financial Review, Expedia Australia and New Zealand managing director Georg Ruebensal said that the travel website had seen a "notable" increase in demand for international destinations like New Zealand, as "Aussies seek to make the most of their hard earned cash."
"Most people look for ways they can save money so they can make the most out of their holiday, and keeping an eye on currencies is smart."
The Australian dollar on Monday was trading at 74.13 US cents according to news.com.au, which will buy an Aussie traveller 112.08 New Zealand cents.
Other than offering a competitive exchange rate, a recent British survey found that New Zealand has become a major tourist destination due to its landscapes that were showcased in the The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
While the Australian dollar has seen a sharp decline overall, it is currently trading at a three week high, which means now could be a good time to lock in a competitive exchange rate on a prepaid travel card before the Aussie dollar falls to under 70 US cents, as predicted by many experts.
