A large number of Aussies have been enquiring about rented accommodation in London in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games.

According to HomeAway.co.uk, the demand for properties in the English capital in July and August has grown by 695 per cent.

Bosses at the firm also confirmed that Australia was one of the top ten sources for booking enquiries.

Thousands of Aussies are expected to make the long journey in order to cheer on their athletes during the sporting showpiece and they are likely to benefit from the best exchange rates seen for years when buying their overseas travel money, thanks to the strength of the Aussie dollar.

However, those planning to head to London will have to pay over the odds for their accommodation, as opportunist property owners have unsurprisingly hiked their rent demands while the competition takes place.

Indeed, leaders at HomeAway.co.uk have revealed that rent payments will go up by between 70 and 200 per cent.
