Promotional events may lure Aussies to Nepal

Tourism chiefs are hopeful that recent promotional events will encourage more Aussies to seek the best exchange rates before visiting Nepal.
With the Aussie dollar remaining strong, many people from down under may be tempted to take a break in an exotic country in the new year and Nepal may prove to be an ideal destination.
Travel leaders in the Asian country – which is the home of the world's tallest peak Mount Everest – have staged an elephant-themed festival to raise awareness of the holiday hotspot around the globe.
As well as an elephant beauty pageant, some of the creatures also took part in a unique game of soccer.
"We hope that the elephant festival will help bring more tourists to Chitwan. We need both foreign and domestic visitors," commented one of the organisers Ghanashyam Shrestha.
Asian destinations are certainly proving favourable among many Aussies, with record numbers of Western Australians visiting Bali this year, while Singapore has also welcomed a growing number of people from down under in the past 12 months, the West Australian reports.
